Mississauga Detached Additional Residential Unit By-Laws

Mississauga Detached Additional Residential Unit By-Laws

Mississauga permits detached additional residential units on properties across the city.

What are detached adu?

A detached additional unit is a separate living space. It is located in the same area as the main residence.  Contrary to attached ARUs that share a wall with the main house, detached ARUs are freestanding structures, similar to a small cottage or apartment. They have their own entrances, kitchens, bathrooms, and sleeping areas, with more privacy and independence than a room within the main house.

Size and Height

A two story suite must not be taller than 6.8m in height with a sloped roof less than 55m². If the residential area is greater than 500m², the suite can be 10% of the total area to a maximum size of 100m².
